Update: Doja Cat, the "Say So" singer, may have accidentally confirmed Taco Bell's Mexican Pizza is returning. The rapper took to TikTok to tease a “jingle” for Taco Bell, seemingly corroborating rumors that the Mexican Pizza is slated for a much anticipated comeback.

“They want me to rap about Mexican Pizza,” Doja Cat said, asking her 20 million followers to keep the news a secret Monday afternoon. “Just know, it’s contractual,” she whispered.

A collaboration between Taco Bell and Doja Cat would be a long time coming. In September, Doja proved that stars are just like us, gently requesting via Twitter that the fast food chain bring back the popular menu item.

Taco Bell seemed to take note.

We’ve seen many surprising couplings in the last few months. However, there are few pairings as unexpected, yet harmonious as tacos and pizza. Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza is the result of that iconic combination. After much controversy, the fan-favorite food might return to the menu after its dismissal in November 2020.

The menu offering originally debuted in 1985 and quickly became a classic among fusion-food enthusiasts. The amped-up pizza consists of a shell “crust” filled with seasoned beef and refried beans, topped with a layer of tomato sauce, a three-cheese blend, and diced tomatoes. When the refried favorite retired, the move caused an immediate uproar. Devotees devastated by its dismissal demanded to see its return, even going so far as to start a Change.org petition.

While Taco Bell’s website still lists the menu item as “unavailable,” calling on customers to “find something new to love,” some patrons remain loyal to their beloved crunchy pizza. The internet speculated for months about when, if ever, the cuisine would make its reappearance.

As of publication, Taco Bell still has not officially confirmed whether or not the Mexican Pizza will be returning. That said, compelling rumors abound. Fast-food influencer @Markie_devo shared on Instagram that Mexican Pizza will likely be back on the menu in May. Additionally, Living Mas a fan-led authority on the chain — claims that they are "90% sure" the iconic dish is returning this spring, according to an alleged video transcript from a Taco Bell annual conference.

The internet is already abuzz about the potential for personalization if the dish returns. The current listing on Taco Bell’s website displays a “Customize It Now" tab with options to swap out beef for chicken, steak or beans. A line up of add ons like red strips, cheese, seasoned rice, and jalapeños, plus extra sauces like avocado ranch, guacamole and nacho cheese sauce offer a peek at the possibilities to take the beloved listing to the next level.
