Kellogg’s has provided the world with convenient toaster-pastries since 1964. Originally consumers had the option to choose between strawberry, blueberry, apple-currant and brown sugar cinnamon. Now, over 30 flavors can be found in grocery stores and vending machines. But even with unique flavors such as cookies and creme, chocolate fudge and s’mores, there are some flavors that have yet to be packaged in a pop tart. 

Instead of being left with a pop tart shaped void in our lives, these handheld pastries can easily be replicated at home and filled with whatever you have in the house. 

To start you off, try out these 5 homemade pop tart recipes for flavors you wish existed. 

First things first: the crust

Vanilla Pie Crust

  • Prep Time:1 hr
  • Cook Time:25 mins
  • Total Time:1 hr 25 mins

    Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 sticks salted butter
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Step 1

    Combine flour and sugar in a large mixing bowl.

  • Step 2

    Add chilled butter to the mixture and use two knives to cut butter into pea-sized pieces.

  • Step 3

    Add vanilla and the cold water 1 tbsp at a time until the dough is able to be formed into two balls.

  • Step 4

    Chill the dough for at least an hour.

  • Step 5

    Assemble into pop tarts on lined baking sheets and bake for 20 minutes at 375°.

Chocolate Pie Crust

  • Prep Time:1 hr
  • Cook Time:10 mins
  • Total Time:1 hr 10 mins

    Ingredients

  • 3 ½ cups flour
  • 3 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 sticks salted butter
  • 1/2 cup cold water or just enough to make the dough stick together
  • Step 1

    Combine flour, sugar, salt and cocoa powder

  • Step 2

    Add chilled butter to the mixture and use two knives to cut butter into pea-sized pieces.

  • Step 3

    Add cold water to the mixture until the dough can be formed into a ball.

  • Step 4

    Chill the dough for at least an hour.

  • Step 5

    Assemble into pop tarts and bake for 10 minutes at 400°.

How to assemble a pop tart:

1. Roll dough and cut pop tarts into rectangles

2. Place a spoonful of filling in between two rectangles

3. Crimp edges to seal the pop tart

4. Poke holes in top using a fork

5. Bake on lined baking sheet 

Chocolate Raspberry

Pecan Pie

To make your simple pecan pie filling, combine melted butter, light corn syrup, brown sugar, egg and vanilla extract in a mixing bowl. Finish it up by mixing in chopped pecans.

Filling Ingredients:

-⅓ cup corn syrup

-¼ cup brown sugar

-1 ½ tbsp of butter

- 1 egg

-½ tsp vanilla extract

-½ cup chopped pecans 

Coconut
