If you go to school, visited or even have friends in Manhattan then you probably know about So Long Saloon. So Long is so popular that I am surprised Guy Fieri hasn't paid them a visited yet. So Long Saloon was where I had my first legal beer! Oh, but it wasn’t just a beer; it was a “Nancy”. So, how did the "Nancy" from So Long Saloon get its name?

What is a Nancy?! The Nancy is an ice cold, Old Milwaukee beer with a splash of pineapple juice, and it is delicious. Almost as delicious as their world famous raspberry black bean dip and burgers.

Anyways, on to what you came here for. The "Nancy" got its name in 2001, when So Long Saloon opened. A man that enjoyed the taste of cheap beer would come in frequently for a beer and at the time they only served Old Style beer. He didn't like the taste of just Old Style so he started to experiment with other mixers in his beer. He tried tomato juice, cranberry juice, you name it he tried it. Then, the bartender added a splash of pineapple juice and it has been popular ever since. After that the staff started calling the man a "Nancy" as a way of making fun of him for not being able to drink a beer on its own.

A few years after that first Nancy was made, So Long Saloon has switched from offering Old Style beer to Old Milwaukee. They have also been the #1 Old Milwaukee bar in the country. Right here in Manhattan, Kansas!

Bonus fact: If you like the Nancy then you need to try the other variations they make; like the Pirate Nancy!
