It's the first official week in February, and I know I'm ready to make this month the best it can be. One of the things I wanted to try out was some new breakfast options. Whether you're a donuts enthusiast already, or just curious about them, keep reading to find out why Halo Potato Donuts is taking Gainesville by storm.

The Backstory

Marissa Rivers

Halo Potato Donuts was originally a food truck. They opened their first brick-and-mortar location on November 8, 2019 and have been seeing major success ever since. The instagrammable spot brings college kids and families alike to not only try their donuts, but to snap some pics along the way. They're open from Thursday to Friday from 6:30 am to 12:00 pm (or sellout) and Saturday to Sunday from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm (or sellout). They're located on 1323 South Main Street.

The Donuts

Marissa Rivers

With flavors like cereal milk, maple bacon and lemon blueberry, these potato donuts are certainly special. But you may be asking yourself, what exactly is a ~potato~ donut? Taste-wise, the potato donut is a lot more dense than a regular one. The way they are made is different too, with potato donuts having a base of potato starch instead of flour. They also have vegan donuts available as well.

The flavors are plentiful, and there is sure to be one for everyone in your group. Personally, I enjoyed the maple bacon donut the best. It was unique to anything I'd had before, and it tasted like the last bite on your breakfast plate (if your breakfast was pancakes and bacon with maple syrup on top).

The Location

Marissa Rivers

I enjoyed the new aspect of their storefront. Though there was only outdoor seating and it was about 40 degrees outside, the warmness of the donuts and company made it feel like it was 75 degrees and sunny. There were some cute tables set up outside, and plenty of parking. The blue and yellow color scheme was true to brand, though it did remind me of the University of Delaware's colors (lol). Their new location is great to grab their amazing donuts, but maybe not the best study spot if that's what you're looking for.

The Coffee

Marissa Rivers

If there are donuts, there's got to be coffee (in my professional opinion, at least). Halo Potato Donuts' has hot coffee, iced coffee and also a cold brew supplied by Wyatt's. I enjoyed the coffee a lot, and found it to be the perfect balance to the warm donuts.

Final Thoughts

I was pleasantly surprised by the variety Halo Potato Donuts had to offer. The service was incredibly friendly, prices not too high, and the donuts delectable. I would highly recommend popping by for your morning (or afternoon) sweet fix.
