Here at Sewanee, we are provided with an abundance of trails, lookouts, and scenic spots all over campus. We are also provided with delicious food from places like Mountain Goat Market, Stirlings, and even McClurg. So what could be better than to take that delicious food and enjoy it out on the Domain? Grab some Mountain Goat pizza and a Yerba Mate and let’s check out some of the best picnic spots around campus.

Morgan's Steep

Just a quick walk or drive down South Carolina will take you to one of campus’ most popular lookouts. The flat stone surface makes for a great spot for a picnic with friends accompanied by a gorgeous view.

And if you are looking for more of a hike to go along with your picnic, you can make a quick trek down the stone staircase when you arrive at Morgan’s Steep. As you head down the stairs towards the trail, you’ll find a couple of secret spots near a waterfall where you can enjoy your food and a beautiful part of The Domain.

Lake Cheston

Down past the university farm is Lake Cheston, a great place to go on a warm, sunny afternoon. Coupled with picnicking, you can lounge around by the water, and if it’s warm enough, even take a dip! With lots of flat space around almost the entire lake, along with picnic tables located nearby, it’s the perfect place for a Sewanee picnic.

Abbo's Alley

Abbo’s Alley is one area on campus that can provide multiple picnic spots for any occasion. One scenic spot in Abbo’s Alley is the Koi Pond, where you can watch the fish and listen to the babbling of the water. Only a short walk down from University, Abbo’s Alley can provide an abundance of great picnicking spots, as well as hiking trails to add a bit of adventure.

Green's View

Another popular lookout on campus, Green’s View is located right by the golf course and is only a short walk (and an even shorter drive) from most places on campus. With lots of flat surfaces and benches surrounding the lookout, Green’s View is the perfect place for any picnic, large or small. The scenic site also leads to trails that are great for if you want to work off some of that delicious mountain goat pizza!
