Winter is the skin's worst enemy. The cold temperatures, heavy winds and unexpected sun exposure can leave your skin feeling red, itchy and dry. With spring right around the corner, it's time to get your skin back on track. While you can always whip out your moisturizer, they often provide short-term results and we want a glow that will last. Luckily, there is a long-term solution to achieving naturally glowing skin: eating healthier. In this article, I share four foods that will help replenish your skin so you can feel beautiful both inside and out.

1. Avocado- The redness reducer

Deemed as a "superfood," avocados can completely transform your skin. This fruit is packed with vitamin E, an anti-inflammatory vitamin that helps reduce redness in the face. A daily dose of this vitamin will keep your skin cells strong and hydrated. Dietitians recommend limiting your avocado intake to  1/2 an avocado per day, so reap the benefits of this superfood by spreading it on some toast, putting it in a smoothie, or eating it raw.

2.  Grapefruit- The UV defender

Even in the winter, the sun has a way of seeping through the clouds and damaging your skin. One way you can combat the sun's harmful UV rays is by eating red and pink grapefruit. Red and pink grapefruits are filled with a powerful antioxidant called lycopene. Lycopene works by gathering in the skin to extinguish compounds that can damage skin cells. Protecting your skin from UV damage is important for anti-aging, so help your skin out by incorporating grapefruit into your everyday diet.

3. Oranges- The skin & mood brightener

Oranges can replenish your skin by keeping it supple and radiant. B1 and folate found in oranges improve blood circulation and distribute oxygen and nutrients throughout the skin, creating a balanced skin tone. Not only can this sweet fruit lighten your complexion, but it can lighten your mood as well. Oranges are a natural aromatherapy. Researchers tested the effects of the scent on graduate students placed in a stressful environment. They found that the orange scent reduced the anxiety of the students but raised their energy. A healthy mood contributes to healthy skin- so add this mood-lifting fruit into your life.

4. Kale- The skin smoother

Kale is the ultimate skin replenisher. As one of the most nutrient-dense foods on earth, adding kale to your diet can completely transform your skin. Kale is loaded with vitamins A and C. vitamin A encourages healthy cell growth by stimulating cells that produce collagen in the dermis. Collagens are long strands of protein that hold your skin cells together. Collagen caused by the vitamin A stimulation smoothes your skin, leaving it firm and radiant. While vitamin A stimulates, vitamin C produces the collagen needed for skin strength.
